What happened?

On 2 December 2023 at 18:46, an ambulance was dispatched to a 112 emergency call in Schiedam, on Bart Verhallenplein. The ambulance dispatch centre coordinates the response and sends a crew with priority lights and sirens to provide first aid on-site and — if needed — transport the patient to the nearest suitable hospital.

The ambulance was dispatched as a Direct Deployment (DIA): the dispatcher was still gathering details from the caller, but the ambulance had already been sent on the basis of the first signals. This avoids losing time in situations that look immediately life-threatening.
